The brand produces innovative and sustainable stoneware, made from the best natural resources in Portugal. COSTA NOVA was born in a small Portuguese fishing village, near the Atlantic Ocean.

Nowadays, carrying Portugal’s name and heritage all over the world COSTA NOVA is present across the five continents, in prestigious department stores and boutiques, hotels and renowned restaurants.

Using the best natural resources in Portugal, COSTA NOVA products are made in a single firing system heated up to 1180ºC (2160ºF) which creates a unique ceramic body with a special bonding between the clay and the glazed surface. This original formula explains why our stoneware is so durable and resistant to both thermal and mechanical shocks.

In addition, our team of designers, technicians, modelers and craftsmen are constantly developing original shapes and colors, all the way to truly unique designed and handcrafted pieces.

Waste management

The waste we generate is mindfully managed. 99% is sent for recycling or valorization processes, becoming by-products incorporated into other industries.

Energy efficiency

358Kw in solar panels, reused heat from the kilns to other equipment, and single-fired production that reduces the energy consumption and emissions into the atmosphere.

ECOGRES®

Costa Nova sees its products and operations as part of a long-life cycle and is committed to taking better care of the community and of the world. In this commitment to sustainability, Costa Nova developed a new raw material, by collecting, recycling, and reusing clays and glazes from its own operations and other materials. The result is Ecogres®, a reinvented clay, made of recycled materials and completely eco-friendly.

Packaging

Everything we use to pack our products is recycled and recyclable. To fill our boxes, we use Ecocard, a subproduct we developed that is made of crushed internal cardboard waste.

Water treatment

In addition to our reducing consumption practices, all our water is carefully treated and reused for internal cleaning processes or reintroduced in our production process.

Eco-design

We are limiting the environmental impact of our products by developing them with attention to form, ergonomics, aesthetics, quality, production costs, distribution, usability, and life cycle.

This trademark is a result of years of an internal investigation, in collaboration with a local university (Universidade de Aveiro), and the result is an upgraded (recycled) raw material that presents several advantages to the environment:
