Waste sorting has become an issue for the sector as few hotels offer it to their guests. It is a simple and winning process for the hotel owner and the customer. In the retail sector, 76% of source-separated waste is recycled compared to 17% of unsorted waste.
Nowadays, a guest spends an average of 1.8 nights in a hotel, single-use products are less and less used. The Unisoap Association has looked into the waste of soaps. In France, 51 million soaps are thrown away every year. Unisoap offers to collect and recycle these products by cleaning and mixing them together to recreate new soap blocks. These small blocks are then redistributed to people in need in France.
Hospitality linen is also a challenge in terms of waste management which is mostly incinerated. Some companies are proposing solutions to recycle them by turning the linens into upholstery stuffing products. The process used allows to create 100% recyclable products from recycled products.
