Morbern Europe : Coated Fabrics for the “New Normal”
The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic is driving interiors professionals to thoroughly assess materials specified for new-build and refurbishment projects. With many textile manufacturers now promoting anti-Covid19 products, there is a simple way to check facts from marketing claims: any approved biocidal product requires a BRP 528/2012 registration and carries a R4BP (Register for Biocidal Product) number visible on the product label or accessible through the manufacturer. Whilst coated fabrics – like other textiles – can be treated with such biocidal active substances to inhibit the growth of microbes such as bacteria, fungi, and viruses, they cannot however kill bacteria on contact.
More generally, the smooth, non-porous and durable surface of coated fabrics is highly resistant to scratches and cracks, where bacteria may thrive. In addition, the high cleanability of coated fabrics promotes good maintenance practices by simplifying disinfection methods. All Morbern Europe coated fabrics are resistant to bleach – the principal disinfection agent recommended by the ECDC (European Centre for Disease prevention and Control) for covid-19 preventative cleaning, both in healthcare and general environments such as hospitality venues. The decorative upholstery range can also be disinfected using alcohol-based products such as Hydrogen Peroxide and Isopropyl Alcohol (equally promoted by the ECDC) without any risk of fading or deterioration over time. Furthermore, Morbern anti-microbial fabrics are both ISO 21702 (Measurement of antiviral activity) and ISO 22196 (Measurement of antibacterial activity) certified.
Specifically, Morbern’s anti-microbial MorCare™ collection, engineered to resist mildew, stains and bacterial growth, provides a highly performant yet aesthetically-pleasing surface solution. MorCare™ meets the most rigorous wear and cleaning requirements, offering a stylish, phthalate-free solution for numerous applications where high durability is a must.
