Lightness and Practicality

Reissued in 2024, the story of this product takes its roots in 1935, when the city of Paris issued public invitations to tender in preparation for the 24th Universal Exhibition of 1937. The company ”X. Pauchard – Sièges Tolix” were asked to design furniture to match the ambitions of this major exhibition. The result was the T37 Chair and Armchair. More than 12,000 chairs and armchairs were produced to furnish over a hundred hectares of public gardens.

Embodying the modern style of the ’30s and ’50s, the T37 Chair has made a name for itself thanks to its rock-solid solidity and light weight. Stackable, it is the perfect answer to the need for rational space. Its refined aesthetics and great functionality have led to a prestigious and successful career.

It was in 1948 that Tolix founder Xavier Pauchard imagined a braided pattern in steel. He decided to use this Steel mesh on the seat of the timeless T37 chair : It was born! The lightness of the geometric lines and the finesse of the braiding contrast with the durability and purity of the Steel.

On the eve of its 90th birthday, the assertive lines and resolutely contemporary silhouette of this Chair are sure to find their place in contemporary gardens and interiors. A warm color palette is dedicated to it to give it an even stronger identity. An icon of industrial aesthetics for almost a century, it has stood the test of time and style to become a classic in the collective memory, a “living heritage” that illustrates the French art of living…

Every chair that leaves the Tolix workshops in Burgundy bears the Tolix signature stamped into the metal. In 2006, Tolix was awarded the “Living Heritage Company” label by the French Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Industry.
