Made to measure and on order in France

A beautiful picture of the monuments of Paris in the 19th century

Edited in 1812, this panoramic was manufactured by the Dufour Manufacture. The original decor was printed using 2062 wooden boards reproducing 80 different colors.

Joseph Dufour, the workshop’s founder, was staying in Paris in 1794 when he first got the idea of making a panoramic wallpaper. He started drawing the most iconic monuments of Paris, lining them along the River Seine –across which he ignored the bridges! So, from left to right can be recognized: the Invalides, the church of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the Palace of Luxembourg, the Tuileries gardens, the “Lycée Imperial” (nowadays the Louis-le-Grand secondary school), the Sainte-Chapelle, the Carrousel Triumph Arch, the Mazarin Palace, Notre-Dame de Paris and Saint-Denis Gate.

This re-edited model belongs to the city of Lamballe (Côtes d’Armor): it is now on display in the hall of the town hall, near the wedding hall. It was one of the most popular French panoramas in the United States at the beginning of the 19th century.

Revitalizing such fabulous panoramic wallpaper by means of digital restoration was a patient and meticulous completed by our workshop.
